most of my leo's lost weight on the mealies.... its like they didnt care for them. When I switched over to crickets they did much better... and they love the roaches they are on now.

Mine get primarily crickets. I only offer superworms a couple times a month. I also like to give them horn worms when the pet store had appropriate sized ones in stock the days I go there.

My vote is on parasites...I think crickets are notorious for carrying parasites when they aren't raised in a very clean environment.
